The Northern Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society (PRRT&HS) will meet on Sunday, February 9, 2014, 1:30 p.m., at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 301 W. Philadelphia Street, York, Pa. (map). Parking is around back, use the rear entrance, and proceed down the steps to the meeting room. The meetings consist of a short business meeting and some type of program or presentation about the PRR and related subjects. Meetings are free and open to the public.
For our February meeting, Michael Froio will present a slide show and discussion about his ongoing photographic project (2007 - present) From the Mainline: A Contemporary Survey of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Inspired by the work of William H. Rau, who was commissioned in the 1890’s to document the PRR and its destinations, Froio's project explores the transitioning landscape along the mainline from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, highlighting the unique vernacular of facilities and infrastructure built by the Pennsylvania Railroad. Combined with his large format film based images, Froio utilizes historical research and imagery to present a creative documentation of one of the most celebrated railroads in American history for both exhibition and web format. This is a program not to be missed!
