The Northern Central Chapter of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society will meet on Sunday, November 10th at 1:30 p.m. at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 301 W. Philadelphia Street, York, Pa. (map). Parking is around back, use the rear entrance, and proceed down the steps to the meeting room.
The program will be about the rail operations of the P.H. Glatfelter Paper Co. in Spring Grove, Pa. The Spring Grove paper mill has been served by the Frederick Branch (York, Hanover & Frederick Railway) of the PRR since the line was first constructed in the early 1870s. Although the line has recently seen some dismantling of track to the south/west of Spring Grove, portions of the line east of Spring Grove are still used to provide rail service to the paper mill. And throughout the history of the YH&F there has been an interesting relationship to the former Western Maryland line that also runs through Spring Grove between York and Hanover. So come to the November meeting and learn about this interesting history.
The meeting is open to the public.
