HO Scale Alco S-2 Switcher Announced

Atlas has announced a run of HO scale Alco S-2 switchers...

Built by the American Locomotive Company (ALCo) the low-hood S-2 was introduced in 1940 to replace ALCo’s earlier high-hood switchers. The 1000 horsepower S-2 was a turbocharged version of the S-1. There were 1,502 S-2s sold to North American Railroads. The versatility of the S-2s was evidenced by their service on class 1 shortline and industrial railroads. Atlas’ version is back in service, with new tooling, as well as a sound-equipped version for modeler enjoyment.

The Pennsy classed the S-2 as the AS10 and rostered 42 of them, beginning in 1950.

Atlas will offer both a standard DC version and a DCC version with a LokSound sound decoder. Three road numbers are offered: 5659, 9106, and 9108.

The MSRP's are $149.95 for standard DC and $259.95 for DCC with sound. They are due to be released in September 2013.
