MER Regional Convention Slated

The Susquehanna Division of the Mid Eastern Region of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) will be hosting the regional convention in Harrisburg, October 12th-15th, at the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey Hotel. There is plenty of Pennsylvania Railroad content -- the event is even named after the Pennsy's Susquehannock train!

The event kicks off with a Thursday road trip to the American Car and Foundry (ACF) tank car plant in Milton and then to Bowser Manufacturing in Mountoursville. There is another tour to the East Broad Top Railroad and the Rockhill Trolley Museum. Also, a trip to Harris Tower with a Harrisburg Amtrak Station tour.

Over 50 clinics on prototypes from coast to coast, plus the latest modeling techniques, will be offered by an award winning lineup of speakers, including Lee Rainey, Bernard Kempinski, Lou Sassi, Steve King, Dick Bronson and more. Topics include Modeling Mount Union, Scratch Building from Photos, Research & Building a Historic Structure, History of Coal-fired Power Plants for Modeling Purposes, Modeling to Prototype Standards and Operating Procedures, JMRI Throttles (including a full size cab simulator), Layout Command & Control (LCC), Timetable & Train Order (TT&TO) Operations, Car Order Operating System Clinic, Using Model Railroad Switch List Software, to name a few.

Over 35 model railroads will open their doors to attendees, including Howard Zane, Ken McCorry, and Dave Trone. Seven railroads are offering operating sessions. (Jerry Britton's PRR Middle Division in HO Scale will be on the tour.)

"Plan your vacation around the fascinating state of Pennsylvania and the traditional fun of an NMRA convention! The fabled land of chocolate will host the 2017 convention in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's capital city. Co-sponsored by the Susquehanna Division of the National Model Railroad Association, the convention features operating prototypes and all the beauty of the capitol of Pennsylvania."

A Free-Mo modular layout is planned to be a highlight of the convention, featuring short operating sessions during the day.
And, of course, every NMRA convention features a full range of contests, white elephant table and a live auction after the banquet.

Registration is open to NMRA Members and their families. However, if you are not a member, you can still register for the convention as a non-member and pay an extra fee of $10. This information will be on the registration form. You can register online.

Early Registration ends August 31st!
